Description

The Stanley No 65 was introduced in 1898 and made for 71 years. As quoted by Bryant @ Virginia Toolworks “Considered one of the best block planes Stanley ever made, the no. 65 is sometimes referred to as the “Cadillac of block planes”, and, Patrick Leach, Stanley tool guru from The Superior Works says “This block plane is one of the finest planes that Stanley ever made.”

Our #65 is hand sand cast in manganese bronze, the first of its type ever to be produced.

It is 175mm (7″) long, 51mm (2″) wide, with a 42mm (1 5/8″) PM-10V 4.8mm thick blade. The sole is precision ground flat with accurate 90° side walls also precision ground flat. The bed is CNC machined at 12° to the sole, with the blade having a primary bevel of 25° makes a 37° cutting angle out of the box. Of course, a secondary bevel can be honed to adjust the cutting angle for different planing requirements.
The adjustable mouth can close up to the blade when taking the finest of shavings or open up when taking coarse rank shavings. It has our proprietary Howard Adjuster fitted along with a hand cast Manganese Bronze cap iron. All other fittings are solid brass.
This is an exception tool, being a low angle block plane it can trim, shape, plane end grain but also be used as a small smoother due to its extra width and length.
The plane has epic heft weighing 1.25 kg (2 3/4 lb) making it wonderfully powerful but still very manoeuvrable with ease of use.

The No 65 planes beautifully with authority.

There is a photo comparing size with the 60 1/2 block plane.
